Chrysalis, the recent exhibition held in the Steel Shed, featuring an eclectic range of work by ECA students, has been one of the mot successful events to be hosted by DOK.
As the title suggests, the paintings on display represent a 'transition' (a chrysalis being that magical moment in nature prior to the emergence of a fully-formed creature.) In this context, the work was intended to reveal the point where these students have arrived during their journey towards becoming fully-fledged artists.
As you would expect, the quality of the paintings and sculptures was uniformly excellent, capturing the creativity, imagination and innovation that continues being nurtured at ECA, the institute that gave rise to the DOK venture itself. The other heartening aspect of Chrysalis was that it was so well-attended, with DOK's Steel Shed crammed to its riveted rafters on opening night.
